Janis isn’t the sort of person who brags about her accomplishments so I’ve taken over this page of her website to do a little bragging on her behalf. She has only been doing bead embroidery for a little over a year. She has taken a couple of beading classes for a particular project, but for the most part she is self taught.
Recently she attended her first meeting of the Toledo Area Needle-workers Guild and joined the group. The Guild just so happened to be hosting its annual judged show and Janis was invited to enter some of her work. She has never entered any of her work in competition before. The pieces that she chose were all original designs that she developed herself. The items were a cuff bracelet, matching earrings, a broach/necklace with matching earrings.
The items were submitted Thursday night and judged Friday morning. When Janis went over to the exhibit hall on Friday afternoon, September 22 to help set up the show for public viewing on Saturday and Sunday she was floored to find that she had done very well for her first exhibit. The earrings that matched the bracelet received Second Place in the beading division. The Bracelet however swept the show. It received First Place in the beading division, Special First Place for exceptional craftsmanship and “The Judge’s Choice Award” as the judge’s favorite piece in the entire show regardless of division or category.
I realize that as her husband, my view is somewhat biased, but I’m very proud of her. I hope you enjoy the photos of her work
