What is Quiko Classic?

Quiko Classic is the foundation of the Quiko Egg food and Soft foods. It is a baked cake made with real whole eggs and honey. Once it is baked hard it is crumbled, making it more readily acceptable by birds. Classic is suitable for all domestic birds. We have found it to be universally accepted in our aviary. The one thing that we find particularly attractive is that oil is not used in making Quiko egg foods, so they don't become rancid like some of the other egg foods available.

What's in it?

The ingredients listed are;

Biscuit (egg, sugar, wheat), rusk, honey, soya, millet seed, vitamin-A-palmitate, vitamin-A-acetate, cholecalciferol, a-tocopherol acetate,thiamine-mononitrate, riboflavin, bitotin, pyridoxine-hydrochlorid, cyanobalocobalamin, ascorbic acid.

Guaranteed Analysis;

17.50% Crude protein (min.)

6.20% Crude fat (min.)

1.40% Crude fibre (max.)

2.80% Ash (max.)

0.19% Calcium (min.)

0.24% Phosphorus (min.)

12.00% Moisture (max.)

It also contains, Vitamin A, Vitamin D3, Vitamin E, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Vitamin C, and Biotin.

How do you use it?

Quiko Classic can be offered dry in a separate feeding dish, sprinkled over the daily diet, or moistened with cold water to a moist clumping texture and offered in a separate dish.

Perhaps the easiest way to prepare it is to use Quiko Rusk and/or Quiko Carrots in conjunction with the Quiko Classic. Simply soak the Rusk or Carrots in water until water is completely absorbed and the Carrots are crumbly, then mix with the Classic at a rate of 75% Classic to 25% Rusk or Carrots.(Alternating between the two offers variety.) This mixture can be refrigerated for up to one week and dished out daily.

The protein levels of the mix can be adjusted by increasing or decreasing the percentage of Rusk or Carrots used. (More Rusk or Carrots lowers the overall protein level.)

Vitamins/medication & Classic egg food.

One of the great challenges in raising and keeping birds is getting the birds to accept vitamins or occasionally medication ((it's really tough getting a budgie to take a pill.) Sprinkling vitamins over the seed just doesn't work. However, mixing the vitamins or medicine with the egg food almost guarantees that the birds will get the additives, because we have found that the birds almost always go straight for the egg food before they touch anything else.

Enhancing feeding behavior.

Variety is the spice of life, so they say, try spicing up your birds' lives by adding different ingredients to the egg food mixture. We occasionally add some of our special song food seed mix (ask for a free sample) for the finches and canaries. Larger birds get cooked sweet potato, seed, or chopped fruits and vegetables added to the mixture. Chopped greens are great for all birds, so mix them in with the mixture.(Kale, Romaine lettuce, spinach, celery leaves, etc.)

Save a little money-Mix it up!

Quiko Classic is the least expensive of the various "specialty egg foods" available. Try "cutting" the more costly specialty formulas with a bit of Classic during the "off breeding season". The quality is still there, but you save a bit on the cost of the foods.
